Description
Teaching English writing in Indonesia today comes with its own unique set of stories and challenges. On one hand, we are faced with national curriculum targets and global demands. On the other hand, we all know that for most of our students, putting ideas into written English often feels daunting and exhausting. This is exactly where our role as EFL teachers is put to the test: it is not just about teaching how to construct grammatically correct sentences, but about helping students find their “voice” and purpose in writing.
“The Writing Architect: Balancing Process, Product, and Purpose in the EFL Classroom” was born as a discussion companion and a practical guide to address those challenges. The analogy of an “Architect” is chosen because a good architect does not focus solely on a building’s final look or aesthetics. They ensure the foundation is solid (process) and make sure the building is genuinely functional and comfortable for its inhabitants (purpose). The same principle applies to our writing classrooms.
